In 10 months of 2024, foreign tourists spent 6 billion US dollars (more than 622.7 billion rubles) in Brazil, which was a record amount since 1995. This is reported by the publication Metropoles, a partner of the TV BRICS network.
This figure is 5.9 percent higher than in the same period last year. Moreover, it exceeded the amount spent by foreign travelers in the republic during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The country’s Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, noted that this result reflects a strong position in the international arena. According to him, Brazil’s active foreign policy and participation in global initiatives contribute to strengthening the image of the state and stimulate the development of tourism.
It is noted that attracting travelers from abroad is among the priorities of the Ministry and is part of the National Tourism Plan for 2024-2027, aimed at transforming the republic into the largest tourist destination in South America.
The publication clarifies that in 2024, more than 5.4 million foreigners visited the country, which is 13% more than in the same period of 2023. The funds received from the tourism industry make a significant contribution to the country’s economy. They are distributed among sectors such as hospitality, catering, tourism services and the informal economy.
