On November 26, in Baghdad, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov was received by Iraqi President Abdellatif Rashid.
During the conversation, topical issues of further promoting the complex of traditionally friendly Russian-Iraqi relations, including maintaining an active and trusting political dialogue, were discussed.
At the same time, the main attention was paid to the development of the situation in and around Iraq. The Russian side confirmed its continued support for the effective efforts of the Iraqi leadership to further strengthen internal stability and security, normalize the socio-economic situation in the country, and increase its influential role in pan-Arab affairs.
The in-depth exchange of views on regional issues of mutual interest allowed us to state the commonality of the principled positions of Russia and Iraq, advocating an early ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and preventing the spread of armed actions to neighboring states, including Iraq. They also stressed the lack of alternative to a political and diplomatic settlement of the Middle East conflict, in strict accordance with the decisions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly, and the importance of urgent humanitarian assistance to the population of the countries affected by it.
