Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s participation in a joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defence Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO

On November 28, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in a joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defence Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) in Astana, chaired by the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The participants had a constructive and interested exchange of views on topical issues on the international and regional agendas. They discussed in detail the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and the adjacent regions and emphasised the need for further joint efforts to strengthen the Organisation’s potential.

They approved a number of documents for endorsement by the CSTO Collective Security Council, including the final declaration and a statement in connection with the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

They also adopted decisions intended to further strengthen allied ties, enhance foreign policy coordination, improve crisis response procedures within the Organisation, and develop the CSTO Collective Forces.

At the Russian initiative, the participants adopted the statements made by the Foreign Ministers of the Organisation’s member states on the situation in Afghanistan and in connection with the 20th anniversary of the CSTO’s observer status at the United Nations General Assembly.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev informed the meeting participants about the priorities of the country’s chairmanship in the CSTO in 2025.
