On December 14, as part of the consular service in Madeira, diplomats of the Russian Embassy in Portugal and active compatriots living on the island laid flowers at the bust of the outstanding Russian artist Karl Pavlovich Bryullov in the Municipal Garden of Funchal.

The famous painter lived in Madeira in 1849-1850. During this time, he painted several paintings, the most famous of which are “View of Pico Fort on the island of Madeira” and “Landscape on the island of Madeira”. Today, these paintings are kept in the leading museums of our country – in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and in the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, respectively.

The monument to K.P.Bryullov, made by the Portuguese sculptor L.Paishau, was opened with the participation of the Embassy in 2013. On December 12, 2024, the 225 anniversary of the birth of the Russian master was celebrated.
