On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting of the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov with the Governor of Greater Darfur (Republic of Sudan), the leader of the faction of the Sudanese Liberation Movement Minni Arko Minawi.
During the conversation, the situation in Sudan was discussed, with an emphasis on the tasks of an early settlement of the ongoing military and political crisis in that country. The Russian side stressed the need to take immediate steps to end hostilities and launch an inclusive inter-Sudanese dialogue to resolve all disputed issues. Russia’s principled position in support of the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Sudan was also confirmed.
Some practical issues of further strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-Sudanese ties, including maintaining a regular political dialogue, were considered.
