The Egyptian leadership expects that by the end of 2024, the country will receive about 15.3 million tourists. This figure is 5 percent higher compared to the previous year, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi said.

Egypt’s tourism industry is showing steady growth. Last year, 14.9 million people visited the country, which exceeds the historical record of 14.7 million travelers set in 2010, Prensa Latina, a partner of the TV BRICS network, reports.

Fathi noted that in the next five years it is necessary to double the hotel potential and develop new tourist areas, especially in the vicinity of the famous pyramids of Giza.

In the second half of 2024 alone, Egypt received more than 7 million tourists, which brought in 6.6 billion US dollars (663.4 billion rubles) to the budget. The country’s leadership intends to attract up to 30 million tourists annually by 2028 and turn the tourism industry into one of the key elements of the economy. It is specified that before the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector accounted for up to 15 percent of the country’s GDP.
