The leadership of the Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia has completed preparations for the launch of a large-scale initiative for the conservation of soils and water resources. The project, which will cover 53,000 hectares of land, will involve 247,000 people. This is reported by Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of the TV BRICS network.
The initiative is expected to help combat land degradation and increase agricultural productivity. It will address key issues in the region, including soil erosion and water scarcity.
“It’s not just about land conservation. It’s about supporting our farmers and ensuring the long-term sustainability of resources. <...> We have identified more than 429 drainage basins that require intervention and provided the necessary equipment for the work,” said Abdulkarim Musa, Deputy Head of the Natural Resources Department of the Bureau of Agriculture.
The regional authorities called on local residents to actively participate in the project. Intensive training programs for industry specialists have also been organized for its successful implementation. It is noted that the trainings will help farmers master strategies for the effective conservation of natural resources.
