The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) has summed up the performance of the solar energy industry in 2024. According to the organization, the sector showed gradual growth during this period. This is reported by Pretoria News, a partner of the TV BRICS network.

In particular, the total capacity of solar power plants in the country reached 8.97 GW, which is 11.9 percent more than in 2023.

“The future of solar energy in South Africa looks very promising, with almost 500 MW of utility projects under construction and 375 MW of projects scheduled to launch in 2025,” said Rethabile Melamu, CEO of SAPVIA.

According to him, SAPVIA expects the energy storage sector to undergo significant changes in the near future. In addition, microgrids are projected to increase in popularity, especially in remote and rural areas where access to a centralized power grid is limited.
