On January 12, Consul General of Russia in Hurghada V.S.Voropaev and rector of the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Egypt Archpriest Alexy (Mashkov) visited Bishop Hilarion of the Red Sea Diocese of the Coptic Orthodox Church and wished him Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Noting the successfully developing dialogue between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Coptic Orthodox Church, including during the visits of ROC delegations to Egypt, V.S. Voropaev and Archpriest Alexy expressed deep gratitude to Bishop Hilarion for his assistance in organizing divine services of the Orthodox community at the monastery of St. Mina (Hurghada). In this context, he supported the idea of organizing pilgrimages for the Russian-speaking faithful of Hurghada to the ancient Christian shrines of southern Egypt.

Bishop Hilarion was given the text (in English) of the traditional Christmas Message of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to the faithful of the Russian Orthodox Church. At the end of the conversation, memorable gifts were exchanged.

The meeting was attended by the representative of the Diocese for public relations, Fr. Benjamin, and the Third Secretary of the Consulate General, AV Zhilyaev.
