Indonesia is ready to cooperate with Malaysia and support its presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2025. This was stated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur, Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of the TV BRICS network, writes.

Subianto’s official visit to Malaysia is scheduled for January 27, but he arrived in the country earlier to discuss key issues of mutual interest. These include strengthening trade and investment ties and cross–border cooperation.

Earlier, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Indonesian leader’s visit demonstrates the strong relations between the two countries. The Ministry also noted the active cooperation in the economic and socio-cultural spheres.

In 2023, Indonesia ranked seventh among Malaysia’s largest trading partners in the world and third among ASEAN member countries. It is noted that the trade turnover between the states then amounted to about 24.4 billion US dollars (2.4 trillion rubles).

Malaysia has been chairing ASEAN since January of this year. The country’s leadership has chosen the theme of “Inclusivity and sustainability” as the guiding principle of the organization for 2025. Kuala Lumpur strives to strengthen unity in the region and promote solutions to important issues affecting ASEAN States.
