On January 23, Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, received Mohamed Aboukar Zubeir, Ambassador-designate of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Russian Federation, who presented copies of his credentials.
During the conversation, the main focus was on the tasks of building mutually beneficial Russian-Malian cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres.
In the context of Somalia’s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2025-2026, Moscow and Mogadishu reaffirmed their commitment to closely coordinate foreign policy approaches on multilateral platforms in the interests of forming a more just and polycentric world order.
The issues of conflict resolution and crisis situations in the Horn of Africa, including countering the terrorist activities of the Al-Shabab group, were also touched upon.
