On February 8, the Second Diplomatic Chess Tournament under the auspices of the BRICS countries’ embassies was held in Bangkok. It was also timed to coincide with the Diplomatic Worker’s Day.
The event was organized jointly by the Russian Embassy in Thailand, the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office, the Thailand Chess Association and the JCA Chess School.
The competition, which was held in the children’s and adult categories, was attended by more than 50 chess players representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Embassies of Russia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nigeria,as well as Russian compatriots and Thai athletes.
The welcoming speech was given by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation E.Tomikhin, Chargé d’Affaires of Brazil – the current BRICS Chairman – Matias Antonio Senra de Vilgena, President of the Thai Chess Association S.Nakvanich, Thai chess champions P.Laohawirapap and S.Chuemsakul. A video address was given by Senator, President of the Moscow Region Chess Federation, International Grandmaster S.Karyakin.
