A joint Russian-Chinese project on reengineering and localization of the production of high-tech medical equipment has been launched at the I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (MGMU).

Specialists will develop, improve and small-scale manufacture of the most important medical products, including ventilators, anaesthetic and respiratory systems, patient monitors, endoscopes and consumables for them.

According to Alexander Kulish, Director of Technology Commercialization at Sechenov University, the goal of the project is not only to launch the production of high–demand equipment, but also to achieve Russia’s technological sovereignty in the field of medical equipment production. He specified that the First Moscow State Medical University will also create a service center for maintenance.

“Not only our leading engineers, but also doctors will work on improving these devices. The participation of clinicians, the end users of medical equipment, will help to obtain truly high–quality and user–friendly products,” Kulish said.

The initiative is being implemented on the basis of the University’s Engineering Development Center and Design Bureau with the participation of a major manufacturer of medical equipment from China and other partners of the First Moscow State Medical University. The production of key components and final products will be localized at industrial sites in Moscow and the Moscow region.
