The Russian House in Mumbai hosted a meeting with participants of the international scientific expedition project “Afanasy Nikitin — 550”. Historian, writer and member of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Geographical Society Denis Khrustalev, leading researcher at the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr Alexander Bobrov, member of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society and head of the public organization “Dialogue on the Development of Humanitarian Cooperation” Ilya Bannikov noted that under this project they are collecting scientifically significant information about the places visited by the famous Russian merchant, who became the first European to come to India.
Members of the expedition, who had previously followed Nikitin’s route through the Caucasus, the Caspian Sea, Iran and Crimea, arrived in India to conduct comprehensive scientific research at the final stage of the project and verify the not fully studied information left by Afanasy Nikitin in his notes about his stay in South Asia in the 15th century. In early March, the participants will gather at the Russian House in New Delhi and share the results of their work, which will be published upon their return to Russia.
