The CIS Executive Committee held a meeting to discuss the prospects for further economic development of the Commonwealth

On March 5, 2025, a meeting was held at the CIS Executive Committee Office with representatives of the scientific community, experts and leading experts in the field of economic cooperation in order to analyze the prospects for further economic development of the CIS and to fill out a key document in the economic sphere – the Economic Development Strategy of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the period up to 2030.

Addressing the participants of the event on behalf of the CIS Executive Committee, Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Nematov Ilkhom Tuichievich noted:

“We highly appreciate and attach great importance to your proposals, initiatives, new ideas for expanding trade, and even critical assessments of existing barriers to mutual trade between the CIS countries.

We are ready to summarize all your valuable suggestions, pass them through the bodies of sectoral cooperation, basic organizations and submit them to the supreme bodies of the CIS.”

The expert community was represented by leading researchers and teachers of academies, universities and research institutes of the CIS member states.

A meaningful discussion took place on the current state of economic cooperation in the CIS, its problems and prospects.

Sultan Mamatovich Akhmatov, Head of the Department of International Relations and Sustainable Development Goals at the National Institute for Strategic Initiatives under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, stressed that the very fact of the exchange of views confirms the common commitment to maintaining sustainable approaches to the economic development of the CIS in the context of the global restructuring of the world order.

Bakhtiyor Anvarovich Islamov, a professor at the Tashkent branch of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, called for intensifying cooperation in the transport sector in order to expand further economic cooperation between the CIS member states.

Vyacheslav Baburin, Professor of the Department of Economic and Social Geography of Russia at Lomonosov Moscow State University, touched upon the topic of competing and complementary sectors of the economy of the CIS member states.

Deputy Director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Jurakhonzoda Saodat Jurakhon, assessed interregional cooperation, in particular, informed about the state and prospects of Tajikistan’s economic relations with other CIS member states.

Artem Pylin, Head of the sector of bilateral relations between Russia and neighboring countries at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about the development of industrial cooperation between the Commonwealth countries in the field of high technologies.

Inna Vitalievna Andronova, Head of the Department of International Economic Relations, Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, introduced the participants of the meeting to the experience of the CIS Network University and confirmed the importance of joint work on personnel training.

Peter Petrovich Bobrik, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Problems of Organization of Transport Systems at the Institute of Transport Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, informed about the economic importance of developing transport corridors and their connection with global flows of goods.

Nabi Saidkarimovich Ziyadullaev, Chief Researcher at the Research Institute of Socio-Economic Statistics of the Federal State Statistics Service (Russian Federation), noted the need to expand promising areas of economic cooperation between the CIS member states.

The meeting participants touched upon such key topics as digitalization, technical regulation, ecology, industry and industrial cooperation, fuel and energy complex and energy security, mutual trade in goods and services, investment cooperation, etc.

A serious outcome of the discussion was the identification of particularly important issues that need to be addressed and areas that need to be developed jointly in the near future.

Summing up the meeting, I.T. Nematov, Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, stressed the relevance and timeliness of the exchange of views and expressed hope for further cooperation with the scientific community. He also noted the importance of holding such meetings and consultations on a regular basis.
