On 2 December, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, M.L. Bogdanov, met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Mali, Head of UNAMA El Ghassim Wan, who was in Moscow at his request.
During the conversation the participants had a lively exchange of views on peace and stability in Africa, effective settlement of the situation in certain “hot spots” of the continent, with particular attention to the situation in Mali.
The Russian side stressed the importance of respecting the principle of “African problems – African solutions”. At the same time, the sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue to constructively contribute to normalizing the situation in Mali within the United Nations framework and on a bilateral basis, including through support for enhancing the combat capabilities of Malian armed forces and training of soldiers and law enforcement officers.
