There was a meeting on the pension provision of the population in the CIS

On December 2, the CIS Executive Committee held a meeting on the development of pension provision in the CIS member states.

The event was attended by representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Eurasian Economic Commission, the General Confederation of Trade Unions, the Interstate Statistical Committee, the Coordinating Council of the International Union “Commonwealth of Public Organizations of Veterans (Pensioners) of Independent States” and the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting was opened by Olga Kremskaya, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the CIS Advisory Council on Labor, Employment and Social Protection of Population, Advisor of the Humanitarian Cooperation, General Political and Social Problems Department of the CIS Executive Committee. Elena Gomorova, Head of the Main Department of Pension Provision of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus moderated the meeting.

Secretary of IPA CIS IPA Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights, Executive Secretary of IPA CIS Expert Board on Healthcare Evgeniya Vladimirova, representatives of Legal Department Stanislav Konyukhov and Oksana Putsko participated in the meeting via videoconference from the IPA CIS Council Secretariat.

The Azerbaijani side presented at the meeting information material on the work of centers of the Agency of Sustainable and Operative Social Security under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic that provides 154 services based on “one window” principle. The services include labor and employment, social security, targeted state social assistance, disability and rehabilitation, pension provision, social insurance, etc.

Representatives of Belarus prepared a presentation on development of voluntary cumulative pension insurance – the new mechanism of supplementary pension in the Republic of Belarus was launched on October 1, 2022.

Participants of the meeting also exchanged their opinions on the development of national pension systems of the CIS member states from the perspective of foreign citizens’ right to pension provision.

They expressed interest in continuing the practice of holding regular meetings on pension security issues within the framework of the CIS Advisory Council on Labor, Employment, and Social Protection.

The participants decided to apply to the CIS Advisory Council on Labor, Employment and Social Protection with a proposal to facilitate round table discussions in 2023 on the activities of senior citizens, sustainable increase in life expectancy, quality of life, active and healthy longevity, strengthening ties between generations with the participation of representatives of concerned agencies, government agencies, public organizations of the CIS member states and international organizations.
