Minsk hosted a meeting of the Interstate Council on Agro-industrial Complex of the CIS

The meeting of the Interstate Council on the CIS Agro-Industrial Complex took place in the CIS Executive Committee on 2 December.

The event was attended by representatives of the Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, Eurasian Development Bank, CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, CIS Executive Committee and Eurasian Economic Commission.

The meeting was chaired by Vladimir Grakun, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus.

The main attention was paid to perspectives of further development of cooperation in the sphere of agro-industrial complex under new economic conditions, reasonability of elaboration of agreement on cooperation in the sphere of organic agriculture, measures of List of Responses to Emerging Problems approved by the protocol decision of the CIS Economic Council on June 10, 2022.

At the meeting, the statistical characteristics of the development of agriculture of the CIS member states were presented, the prospects of creating a commodity distribution network of the CIS, the Roadmap for the implementation of the Plan of main activities of the Concept of the development of agricultural sciences and scientific support of the agro-industrial complex were considered.

Board members approved the Statute on working group of representatives of phytomonitoring and plant protection services of CIS countries on locust pest detection and control, Order of obligatory mutual informing on locust pests mass distribution, Statute on Commission on development of viticulture and winemaking in CIS countries and approved the project on unified methodology of locust pest control by phytomonitoring and plant protection services of CIS countries

Secretary of the Standing Committee of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Environment Natalia Amburtseva attended the event. She told about the draft model law “On Organic Agriculture” being developed by the IPA CIS.

“The adoption of this model law and its implementation in national legislation of the CIS Member States in the field of organic production will: create legal conditions for the formation of a mutually agreed and mutually beneficial system of organic agriculture in the Commonwealth, which does not have a negative impact on the environment, life and health of citizens, to form common rules, standards and requirements for the circulation of organic agricultural products in the markets of the CIS Member States.

The next meeting of the Council is scheduled for the second half of 2023 in the Kyrgyz Republic.
