South Korea has created laws to abolish the traditional age counting system

On December 8, South Korea passed a law abolishing the traditional method of calculating the age according to which a person is already one year old at birth. Now in South Korea they will count, as in the rest of the world. That is, every resident of Korea will officially become younger according to documents.

However, not everyone is happy about this – the innovation also applies to restrictions on the sale of alcohol and tobacco, in cinemas and other public places. According to the representative of the authorities, the decision to abandon the “grandfather’s” method will reduce unnecessary socio-economic costs, avoid legal and social disagreements, and generally confusion.

The new law will come into force only in June 2023.
