The Keystone pipeline was shut down after a leak was discovered near the Kansas-Nebraska border.

According to preliminary estimates from the Keystone pipeline of TC Energy Corp. more crude oil has leaked than from any other pipeline in the United States over the past 12 years.

The main highway running from Canada to the Midwest of the United States was closed after the spill of 14,000 barrels of oil, some of which fell into a local stream. In total, Keystone has spilled almost 26,000 barrels of crude oil into the United States since 2010. According to preliminary data from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, this is more than on any other pipeline during this period.

A spokesman for the Department of Transportation said the agency was continuing to investigate the cause of the leak.
