Uzbek electricity supplies to Afghanistan have been reduced, but have not stopped. This was stated in the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, reports “Fergana”.

Thus, the Ministry reacted to a video message from the representative of the DABS energy company Hikmatullah Maivandi, who stated that due to problems in the power supply system, Uzbekistan cannot fulfill contractual obligations to Afghanistan.

Now DABS has taken care of restarting thermal power plants and limiting the supply of electricity to industrial facilities in order to provide energy to residential areas that have often been left without electricity in recent days.

“We use electricity only two or three hours a day. This is a huge problem. People can’t even recharge their mobile phones,” Kabul residents told the Pajhwok news agency.

According to the agency, Afghanistan needs 1,200 MW of electricity per day, but currently the country receives only 850 MW from domestic and foreign suppliers.

Uzbekistan has been supplying 125 MW of electricity in recent days, the country’s Energy Ministry reported.

“Currently, electricity supplies are carried out via one Naibabad 1 transmission line, the second Naibabad 2 line is under repair due to technical problems, for this reason, electricity exports to Afghanistan have been reduced, but not stopped,” the ministry stressed.

JSC “National Electric Networks” of Uzbekistan supplies electricity to Afghanistan on the basis of a contract concluded in 2019 with DABS, according to which the annual volume of supplies should be up to 6 billion rubles. kilowatt-hours of electricity. The document is signed for 10 years.
