Migrants from the EAEU will simplify the regime of stay in Russia

The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union has been amended to simplify the regime of stay in Russia of migrants from the EEA. The law (No. 231975-8) on the ratification of such a protocol was adopted by the State Duma at a plenary session on December 13.

According to Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development Dmitry Volvach, the protocol contains 137 amendments. “Firstly, the regime of stay and professional activity for labor migrants from the EAEU will be simplified, the administrative burden on business will be reduced,” he said. It provides for the recognition of documents on qualifications in the field of pedagogical and legal activities, academic degrees and titles. There is an opportunity for working migrants to change the purpose of entry without leaving the territory of the state of employment. “These changes will affect more than 1.5 million migrants from the EAEU countries currently working in Russia,” Volvach said. The document also clarifies the rules on customs control and the fight against tax evasion.

The volume of mutual trade in goods within the EAEU in 2021 increased by 33 percent and reached a historic high, Dmitry Volvach noted. The total GDP grew by 5 percent, the volume of mutual trade in national currencies amounted to 75 percent, including more than 71 percent in Russian rubles. In the first nine months of 2022, Russia’s total trade turnover with its EAEU partners increased by more than 12 percent compared to the same period last year. The growth is especially high with Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.
