Since “Shab-e Yalda” was registered as a joint heritage of Iran and Afghanistan, this holiday was presented to the spouses of foreign diplomats living in Tehran.
The wife of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahiana, a number of female ambassadors and spouses of diplomats from more than 30 countries also took part in this ceremony.
In a document submitted by UNESCO, “Shab-e Yalda” is described as follows: “On the first day of winter, the longest night of the year “Shab-e Yalda” comes. After that, the days become longer, so “Shab-e Yalda” is called “the night of the birth of the sun”. This holiday is one of the oldest in the country. An integral part of the “Shabe Yalda” is the red color, which is represented by red fruits: pomegranate, grapes, watermelon, etc. On this day, it is customary to gather, sit on the floor at the tablecloth, on which there are certain festive treats.  On this night, they read Shahnameh and Hafez, guess, sing songs and play musical instruments.”
