The “Rhythm of Eurasia” constantly monitors the progress of preparations for the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway route, which will connect Uzbekistan (Termez) and Pakistan (Peshawar) through the territory of Afghanistan.

The new railway will pass through 10 large settlements of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan and will become the main transport and logistics highway for the region. In addition, projects for laying high–voltage power lines “Surkhan – Puli-Khumri” and CASA-1000 will be implemented in the direction of the new railway line.

And here is the new information on this subject provided by Podrobno.uz : The Termez–Mazar-I–Sharif–Kabul-Peshawar highway will be fully electrified.

“At the moment, a digital model of this route has been developed with the help of satellite imagery. This made it possible to minimize the errors in calculations during the design of land works. We have a preliminary calculation of the technical and economic indicators of the construction of this line. It will pass through mountainous terrain, so the route will be fully electrified, electric locomotives are planned to be operated here,” said Khusnutdin Khasilov, Acting Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari.

According to him, thanks to this route, it is planned to additionally transit up to 10 million cargoes per year.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to build 765 kilometers of railways. Next year, it is planned to create a project office, attract an international consulting company, and negotiate with investors. As a result, a feasibility study of the project will be prepared.

Recall that according to preliminary calculations of the Head Institute for the Design of Railways and related Infrastructure “Boshtranslatikha”, this project includes the construction of more than 1,200 artificial structures, including three tunnels, more than 100 crossings and 336 bridges, 33 railway stations, 785 km of power supply lines and 790 km of communication lines. The track of the road will be 1520 mm with the transition to the track of 1676 mm at the Afghan-Pakistani border.

The total estimated cost of the project is $ 4.6 billion, the expected implementation period is 5 years.
