Nizhny Novgorod became the leader of the popular vote for the title of “Youth Capital of Russia”. This is a title awarded by Rosmolodezh to one Russian city for a period of one year.

More than 123 thousand people voted for Nizhny Novgorod. Vladivostok, Tula, Novy Urengoy, Kaliningrad, Murmansk and Krasnoyarsk also competed for the victory in the final part of the competition.

The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, thanked the heads of the regions of the Volga Federal District, who personally called for voting for Nizhny Novgorod.

“The victory in such a competition (even if preliminary) — it’s very honorable! For 800 years we have accumulated a huge legacy, but, respecting the past, we continue to make Nizhny Novgorod modern and young by joint efforts,” commented Yevgeny Lyulin, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

“In 2023, we will be waiting for young people from all over Russia to visit, we have something to show,” said the Mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev.

The organizers of the contest note that the winning city will become a point of attraction for the youth of the whole country, will get “a chance to demonstrate innovative ideas, projects and activities aimed at introducing a new youth perspective into all aspects of city life.”

The head of the youth center “Height” Svetlana Anufrieva noted that if Nizhny Novgorod wins the competition, then even more federal-level youth events will be held in the city in 2023.
