On holding the General Meeting of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO

On December 20, the next General Meeting of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO was held at the GlavUpDK Cultural Center under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

The event was attended by heads of relevant Russian ministries and departments, heads of federal subjects, representatives of business circles, prominent figures of education, science, culture, journalism and sports of our country.

Sergey Lavrov presented a report on the current state of cooperation between Russia and UNESCO. In particular, the Minister positively noted the holding of an International Forum in St. Petersburg and Kazan in December to mark the 50th anniversary of the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, and also outlined a number of the most promising areas of cooperation with the world humanitarian organization.

In addition, during the Meeting, reports were heard from the State Adviser of the Republic of Tatarstan, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador M.Shaimiev, Chairman of the Russian Bioethics Committee, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.G. Chuchalin and Secretary General of the NGO “Assembly of Peoples of Eurasia” A.Y. Belyaninov.

The General Meeting agreed on the main directions of the Commission’s activities for 2023.
