The engine created by the Özgün Motor project (“Original Engine”) was shown by the Institute of Railway Transport Technologies TÜBITAK RUTE and the state manufacturer of rolling stock Türasaş. According to the V-shaped 8-cylinder diesel engine, the maximum power is declared at the level of 882 kW and fuel consumption is 200 g/kWh. It is emphasized that 90% of the components are manufactured in Turkey, and the intellectual rights are fully owned by Tübitak.

The Özgün Motor line involves the production of 8-, 12- and 16-cylinder engines with a capacity of up to 1985 kW for use on locomotives, ships and in the energy sector. A hydrogen modification is also in development.

The engines should reduce dependence on foreign suppliers: in recent years, licensed diesel locomotives have been assembled in Turkey in partnership with American GE (Wabtec) and EMD (Progress Rail). The project is being implemented within the framework of Turkey’s strategy for the development of national rolling stock production.
