The 2007 hostage crisis in Afghanistan received a film adaptation

The long-awaited film “Negotiations / The Point Men / 교섭”, based on real events about 23 South Korean Protestant missionaries taken hostage by Taliban militants in Afghanistan in 2007, is finally being released on January 18, 2023.

The 43-day hostage situation, which resulted in the death of two men, was caused by the clash of two extreme religious beliefs, but the film focuses on the humanistic activities of the two main characters who are trying at all costs to save the abducted Koreans.

The famous actor Hwang Jung-min plays an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Jung Jae-ho), specializing in negotiations abroad. A competent negotiator goes to Afghanistan for the first time in his life to rescue hostages.

Hyun Bin, one of South Korea’s most popular and influential actors, plays Park Dae-sik, an experienced agent of the National Intelligence Service specializing in the Middle East and Central Asia. Park teams up with Jung to complete a mission to rescue Korean hostages in Afghanistan.
