NDIA plans to invest 180 billion rupees (about $2.2 billion) in stimulating the production of green hydrogen in the country. This was reported on Tuesday by the agency Reuters.

According to the agency, the new program is designed for five years and provides for a significant expansion of the industry for the production of environmentally friendly hydrogen in order to reduce the cost of its production in the country by 20%. Currently, the cost of low-carbon generation of this substance in India averages 300-400 rupees ($4-5) per 1 kg.

Green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources. In recent years, a number of countries have begun to consider it as an important tool for diversifying energy supply and gradually achieving carbon neutrality. Previously, it was predicted that global demand for hydrogen would reach 130 million tons by 2030, and exceed 600 million tons by 2050. At the same time, the cost of projects already implemented in the world in the field of hydrogen energy exceeds $ 240 billion.
