The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission at a meeting on December 27 made changes to the Methodology for the formation of official statistical information of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Now, not only the US dollar, but also the national currencies of the member states can be used as a single unit of account in the formation of statistics of the EAEU.

According to the EEC Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics Sergey Glazyev, the Commission will be able to present statistics on the results of this year in any of the national currencies of the member states, including in Russian rubles.

Recall that the Commission is conducting experimental calculations on the export and import of goods in mutual trade in national currencies. The Russian ruble holds the primacy in servicing payments in mutual trade (on average, it accounts for more than 70% of payments). The second most important national currency in mutual payments is tenge. Its share increased from 0.6% to 1.4% in 2015-2021. The use of other currencies is still insignificant – less than 1%.
