The 82-kilometer road reconstruction project will be implemented by a company established within the framework of the Turkish-Libyan partnership.

A ceremony was held in Tripoli to begin work on the reconstruction and expansion of the road connecting the capital of Libya with the city of Tarhuna.

The ceremony on the occasion of the launch of the project, held in the Salahaddin district, southeast of Tripoli, was attended by Libyan Transport Minister Mohammed al-Shuhubi. In an interview with the correspondent of the Anadolu Agency (AA), Minister Shuhubi said that the 82-kilometer road reconstruction project will be implemented by a company established within the framework of the Turkish-Libyan partnership.

“Turkish companies continue to work on the construction of Tripoli International Airport, Sebha Airport, Sebha-Ubari and Ummul-Eranib-Katrun highways, as well as on the implementation of many projects in the city of Misrata and in western Libya,” the minister said.

A 4-lane divided highway connects the capital Tripoli with the strategically important city of Tarhuna, which, since the beginning of the aggression of Khalifa Haftar’s forces on April 4, 2019, has provided the most successful resistance to the forces of the eastern army. After a successful counterattack by the armed forces of the Government of National Unity, Haftar’s forces were pushed back 500 km east of Tripoli.

Residents of Tarkhuna claim that Haftar, although he grew up in the city of Yeddabya, he hails from Tarkhuna.
