A “tourist card” for non-cash payments of foreign citizens in Russia may appear in the near future, those entering the country will be able to activate it quickly and use it for payments without entering into conflict with international legislation, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said.

Plans to create a “Tourist Card” for non-cash payments of foreign citizens in Russia were announced on Monday by the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov.

“The government has instructed The Ministry of Economic Development to develop such a map. It can be virtual, there can be a plastic Mir card, which allows a non-resident to activate this card quickly when entering the country, transfer the necessary amount of funds to it and, for example, transfer them back when leaving, without entering into conflict with international law. The Central Bank is actively engaged in this issue, supports us, and I think it will be done in the near future,” Chernyshenko said in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel.

He also clarified that in the first nine months of this year, more than 7.5 million foreign citizens entered Russia.
