A meeting on the preservation of traditional crafts of Syria was held under the chairmanship of the Ministers of Tourism, Culture and Industry

The committee, created to preserve the traditional crafts of Syria, held its meeting on December 27 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry of Syria. In addition to the Minister of Tourism Muhammad Rami Radwan Martini, the Minister of Culture Luban Mashavah and the Minister of Industry Ziyad Sabbah, it was attended by all members of the Government representing interested authorities and representatives of relevant organizations, such as the General Union of Artisans, the Syrian Secretariat for Development and the Vatican Vatan Foundation.
The Minister of Tourism Mohammed Rami Martini stressed that everyone is a partner in the preservation of traditional crafts and is not an exclusive right for any party, since the roles and tasks of all stakeholders complement each other.
Industry Minister Ziyad Sobhi Sabbah noted that the main purpose of the formation of the committee is to unite the efforts of all parties interested in preserving traditional crafts that form the Syrian identity. To develop an action plan for the preservation of heritage in the post-war period and the organization of crafts in the traditional style.
For her part, Dr. Lubana Mashavakh, Minister of Culture, noted the importance of partnership and cooperation in this area and the need for accreditation for artisans and the definition of the responsibilities of each of the concerned authorities.
During the meeting, the importance of documenting crafts and joining efforts in developing a unified and approved database on traditional crafts was discussed, as well as the need to develop a regulatory framework for issuing a certificate of accreditation of a craftsman, developing specific criteria for granting this accreditation and adopting a single approved designation for a master craftsman in all national authorities.
