The group, consisting of six people, was met at the airport by the Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Wang Xin, and the official representative of the Nepal Railways Administration, Aman Chitrakar.

“A group of Chinese experts has arrived to conduct a feasibility study of the China-Nepal railway project, and it should be said that we have taken another step in the work on the feasibility study,” A. Chitrakar said.

“China has made progress in the construction of railways,” he said. “This project is certainly not easy for us. There are many technical challenges, but when we look at the experience and technological progress they have achieved to date, we gain confidence that this project will be successful and that Nepal and China will become even closer thanks to the railway.”

The feasibility study of the cross-border railway project, which will connect the Chinese border village of Kerung with Kathmandu, will be carried out by China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd.

“Our group of experts is the first, our arrival in Kathmandu marks a new step in the work on the feasibility study,” said the head of the group Feng Dequan.

According to him, this railway will cross the Himalayas, where the terrain and geological conditions are extremely difficult. Feng Dequan described this project as “one of the most difficult in the world from an engineering point of view.”

“We intend to make full use of China’s advanced technology and rich experience in the construction of railways in difficult mountainous areas and on plateaus, as well as closely cooperate with leading research institutes in China and Nepal and Nepalese engineers to overcome difficulties and conduct technical evaluation work properly,” Feng Dequan added..
