The first meeting of the working group of the State Council on ensuring transport, logistics and socio-economic development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, created on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, will be held in February 2023. The meeting will also consider issues of military garrisons in the Arctic, as well as the transfer of support measures in the Far East to the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation, Governor of the Murmansk Region Andrey Chibis, who heads the working group, told reporters on Wednesday.
“We are planning a meeting at the beginning of the year, most likely in early February. We worked very constructively with our colleagues according to the plan, but if we take the Murmansk region, then this is an increase in funding for those projects that exist, an adjustment of approaches. The second point is just the topic of our military settlements. This is not only our topic, but we have the most of them in the Arctic regions, and one of the issues that we plan to discuss is what has shown its effectiveness in the Far East. The support measures that exist, including the topic of preferential mortgages, so that these support measures are transferred to the Arctic,” Chibis said at a press conference following the results of the year.
He noted that the agenda of the meeting is now being actively formed taking into account the proposals of the participants of the working group.
In November, a working group was established in the State Council to ensure the transport, logistics and socio-economic development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. One of its main tasks is the development of infrastructure around the Northern Sea Route and logistics potential in the Arctic, but in particular, as noted by Chibis, the working group will consider issues of improving the quality of life of people in the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation. The personal composition of the group has not yet been named.
