China has completed the construction of the world’s second largest hydroelectric power plant – the Baihetan station on the upper tributary of the Yangtze, the Jinsha River

There are 16 turbines installed in the facility on the border of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. They are capable of producing 62.4 TWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the consumption of 75 million people. The other day, all the facilities of the hydroelectric complex were put into operation.

After full commissioning, Baihetan will help reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions in China by 51.6 million tons.
