The length of quantum networks in Russia will exceed 15 thousand km by the end of 2030

On December 29, Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, and Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Russian Railways, in the presence of Andrei Belousov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, signed an agreement of intent for the development of the high–tech direction “Quantum Communications”.

On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, JSC “Russian Railways” in 2022, together with the Ministry of Finance of Russia, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia and leading experts of the scientific community updated the roadmap “Quantum Communications” for the period up to 2030. The document details measures aimed at developing infrastructure, priority technologies and the ecosystem of quantum communications, approves expert organizations that will conduct scientific, technological and economic expertise, and improves the control mechanism. The agreement with the Government of the Russian Federation was signed in order to implement the measures of the updated roadmap.

“The main task is to create a quantum communications infrastructure, expand coverage and implement services based on it. This is a federal-scale project, its success is important for the development of other high-tech areas related to digit. We are already implementing infrastructure projects, 25 scientific and technical works that will allow us to produce equipment and component base in Russia,” said the head of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov.

In the new version of the map:

detailed measures for the creation of specific products with certain characteristics;
expert organizations approved;
the control mechanism has been improved.
