On December 28, a solemn opening ceremony of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation took place in Grodno. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Russia to Belarus B.V.Gryzlov, Consul General of Russia in Brest O.Y.Murashev, Chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee V.S.Karanik, Chairman of the Grodno City Executive Committee M.B.Goy, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Belarus — Inspector for the Grodno region Yu.Karaev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus I.V.Nazaruk and other officials.

It is symbolic that the opening of another Russian foreign institution in Belarus falls on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our fraternal countries.

The issue of opening the Consulate General was resolved in record time. This is a great merit of our Belarusian friends and at the same time evidence of a common interest in strengthening bilateral ties.

About nine thousand Russians with a residence permit in Belarus live on the territory of the consular district in the Grodno region, Russian specialists sent by Rosatom work. The presence of a Russian foreign institution in Grodno will significantly simplify the lives of citizens of Russia, Belarus and other countries who need consular services, such as obtaining a passport, resolving issues of the registry office, citizenship, visa processing, etc., and will also give a significant impetus to strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between our fraternal countries.
