On the meeting of the SCO Secretary General with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the People’s Republic of China

On December 28, 2022, SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the People’s Republic of China I.V. Morgulov.

In principle, the interlocutors exchanged views on the further development of the Organization and its international positioning, including improving the effectiveness of the SCO and its executive structures. The general understanding of the priority importance of the work that has begun to improve the mechanisms for countering security challenges and threats in the SCO area of responsibility is emphasized.

The critical importance of consistently filling the interaction of the member states with real content in various practical areas – financial, investment, trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian, and the involvement of observer states and SCO dialogue partners in it was noted.

The importance of developing the sports direction of cooperation between the SCO member states for strengthening friendship and popularizing an active lifestyle among the younger generation was stated.

The parties agreed that there are tangible reserves for activating the use of the mechanisms and institutions of interaction provided for, in particular, meetings of the permanent representatives of the Member States to the SCO Secretariat.

They stressed their mutual commitment to continuing regular contacts on all issues on the SCO agenda.
