On the telephone conversation between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel E. Cohen

On January 3, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel E. Cohen. The Russian Minister congratulated his Israeli counterpart on taking office and expressed readiness to work together in the interests of strengthening diverse mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Israel.

The foreign ministers discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda with an emphasis on the importance of strengthening the potential of trade and economic cooperation. In this context, the need to convene a regular meeting of the Joint Russian-Israeli Commission is emphasized.

The Ministers reviewed the situation in the Middle East and North Africa. When discussing the issues of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, the Russian side stressed its readiness to continue contributing to the restart of the peace process on a generally recognized international legal basis.

Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s position in favor of normalizing the situation in Syria by political and diplomatic methods while respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the need to eliminate the terrorist threat in this country in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also informed his Israeli counterpart about certain aspects of the situation in Ukraine in the context of Russia’s special military operation.
