The flow of Chinese students to Russian universities in December 2022 reached the level before the COVID-19 pandemic, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Beijing Igor Pozdnyakov said.
“The coronavirus pandemic at the initial stage, of course, had an impact on the situation in the field of educational exchanges. In 2020, the number of study visas issued by Russian consular institutions in China to Chinese students for objective reasons has decreased to minimal values,” Pozdnyakov said, speaking at the forum of the Association of Universities of Russia and China, which was held in the format of a videoconference.
According to him, Russian students of Chinese universities at that time also switched to distance learning.
“But I am glad to inform you that in 2022, as of December 7, more than 11 thousand study visas for Chinese students have been issued by Russian consular institutions in China, which is quite comparable with the pre-pandemic indicators of the annual flow of students to the Russian Federation,” the diplomat said.
He added that at the moment 32 thousand Chinese students are studying in Russian universities.
