The leaders of Turkmenistan and China signed a package of documents on cooperation

The agreements were reported on the eve of the state news agency “Turkmenistan Today”. During an official visit to Beijing, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks, which resulted in the signing of 16 documents on cooperation in various fields.

“Appreciating the fruitful results of cooperation between the two countries in various fields over the 31 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the parties are united in the fact that bilateral relations have already entered a new stage of comprehensive development. Based on the high degree of interaction and mutual interest in raising the level of bilateral relations, the Parties announced the development of Turkmen-Chinese relations of comprehensive strategic partnership, confirmed their readiness to continue efforts to deepen multifaceted cooperation,” reads a joint statement of Turkmenistan and the People’s Republic of China published on the agency’s website.

Among the signed documents are memoranda of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the countries for 2023-2024, between the Olympic committees of the two countries, etc. It is planned to establish ties between the Makhtumkuli Turkmen State University and the Beijing University of Foreign Languages.

It is in the interests of both countries to “intensify work on combining the initiatives of the One Belt and One Road and the revival of the Great Silk Road, to focus on the implementation of the Program on Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the People’s Republic of China for 5 years (2021-2025),” the message says.

Among the areas whose functioning will be affected by the signed memoranda, the areas of “green” development, investment cooperation and the fuel and energy complex are mentioned. Thus, agreements were reached on cooperation between the state concern “Turkmengaz” and the Chinese National Oil and Gas Corporation. In addition, Turkmenistan and China have agreed on joint action plans in the field of health, culture for 2023-2027, as well as on cooperation in the field of media and sports.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov was on a visit to China from January 5 to January 6. During the talks, the leader of Turkmenistan also congratulated Xi Jinping on his successful re-election to the post of Secretary General of the CPC Central Committee and the holding of the XX Party Congress.
