The Union program of Russia and Belarus “Spinal Systems” saves traumatized children, and the cooperation of specialists of the two countries will continue in 2023. This was announced today, January 10, by the director of the National Medical Research Center of Pediatric Traumatology and Orthopedics named after G.I. Turner. Sergey Vissarionov.

“The start of this serious program was in 2017, which was preceded by many years of preparation,” he said. – Most of it is devoted to helping children with severe congenital deformities. As a result, unique diagnostic techniques based on computer modeling were developed. A number of unique methods of surgical treatment of children with unstable and complicated spinal injuries have also appeared.”

He clarified that the most effective help for a child is within 5-9 hours after an injury.

According to the neurosurgeon of the National Medical Research Center of Pediatric Traumatology and Orthopedics named after G. I. Turner Vakhtanga Torii, a comprehensive multidisciplinary, multi-model approach developed within the framework of the program also contributes to successful treatment.

“After the injury, everything is just beginning. The most individual approach to each case and efficiency in decision–making are also important,” he stressed.

The fact that untimely assistance can lead to irreparable consequences was also recalled by the head of the Laboratory of Physiological and Biomechanical Research of the National Medical Research Center of Pediatric Traumatology and Orthopedics named after G. I. Turner Margarita Savina.

“Complex express diagnostics helps to prevent this,” she explained.

Deputy Director for Organizational and Methodological Work of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics (Republic of Belarus) Kirill Krivorot noted the crucial role of cooperation between the two countries.

“Since 2021, the program, which was in effect before that, has received practical development,” he said. – We expect to continue, and the next meeting will take place very soon – at the end of January.”

It should be noted that the G.I. Turner National Medical Research Center for Pediatric Traumatology and Orthopedics is an institution with a history. Back at the end of the XIX century, the Blue Cross Charitable Society in St. Petersburg created a “Shelter for Crippled and Paralytic children”.

The modern institution unites 11 specialized specialized clinical departments, three specialized centers, nine scientific departments.
