Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani called Baghdad’s relations with Tehran historical on the basis of common cultural, religious and social ties.

On Wednesday, before flying to Germany next week, Al-Sudani said in an interview with the German newspaper DEWALT that he would visit Berlin at the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discuss gas investments and the presence of German companies in Iraq.

Speaking about the relations between Iran and Iraq, he noted: “We have historical relations with Iran and more than 1,200 kilometers of common border with this country. There are also cultural, religious and social similarities between the two countries. After the changes in 2003, Iran supported the Iraqi political process and helped the country in the fight against the terrorist group ISIS. Positive relations within the framework of cooperation are far from interfering in internal affairs.”
The Iraqi Prime Minister noted that Baghdad does not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, and will not allow others to interfere in the internal affairs of Iraq.
