The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan, who arrived in Beirut, said that the country is ready to help restore the economy of Lebanon. Al Mayadeen TV channel quotes his words in its message.

“We will spare no effort in providing support to the Lebanese and will help them get out of the plight in which they found themselves due to the economic crisis,” the minister said.

The day before, Abdollahiyan attended a number of meetings, during which talks were held with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, as well as with the Speaker of the National Assembly Nabih Berri.

Now the Lebanese economy is in a state of critical decline due to civil wars and conflicts unfolding around the country. The coronavirus pandemic also played an important role in the emergence of the crisis.

In September last year, Iran offered assistance to the Lebanese authorities – the state was ready to provide 600 thousand tons of fuel oil needed for the operation of thermal power plants. However, then Beirut refused the offer, fearing the imposition of sanctions by the United States.
