The 16th Kustendorf Film Festival, founded by director Emir Kusturica, has started in the Serbian ethnic village of Drvengrad*.

The face of the new Kustendorf Film Festival was the daughter of Kusturica.

The portrait of Dunya Kusturica decorated the poster of the 16th Kustendorf Festival, which goes under the slogan “Art is above all”.

The festival’s guests will be directors from Italy, Brazil, Japan, and cinematographers from Serbia, Russia, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Israel, Greece, the Czech Republic, Iran, Slovakia, Mongolia and Switzerland will compete for the main awards of “Kustendorf” – gold, silver and bronze egg.

The festival opened with folk dances and a performance by Emir Kusturica, who said that art can save the world.

*Drvengrad, Mechavnik, Kusendorf – all these are the names of an entire village that Emir Kusturica built in Mokra Gora for the film “Life is a Miracle”
