The national population census will be held in Nigeria at the end of March, Reuters reported, citing government sources. The last event of this kind was held in the country 17 years ago.

Nigeria is currently the most populous state in Africa: according to UN forecasts, the number of its citizens will double by 2050 and reach 400 million people. If these data prove to be correct, Nigeria will enter the top three countries with the largest population.

The authorities plan to obtain information on the number of ethnic groups living on the territory of the African State through the national census. Recall that in Nigeria, censuses were held in 1962, 1963, 1973, 1991 and 2006.

*Note: At the moment, the top three in terms of the number of inhabitants of the country are China (1.426 billion people), India (1.41 billion) and the United States (336 million).
