The issue of summoning showers by seeding clouds continues to be quite acute in the arid climate of the Arab Emirates. Once again, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE, Mariam Almheiri, raised this problem during his welcome program to the participants of the International Forum on Improving Precipitation in Abu Dhabi. She stressed that artificial rains contribute to strengthening the country’s food and water security, and can affect the development of tourism, The National reports on January 27.

“Although the immediate goal of increasing precipitation is to increase precipitation, replenish groundwater reserves and increase freshwater reserves, let’s not forget about the broader and far-reaching impact of rains on water and food security, as well as on tourism and moderate weather,” the minister stressed.

*Cloud seeding is a method of summoning precipitation used by the UAE for a dozen years. Planes specialized for seeding fire special salt cannons into the cloud. Over the previous year, 311 flights were conducted with a mission to increase the amount of rain.
