Irina Laskova is an artist and designer. Member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia (TSHR). An active participant in exhibitions and laureate of international contemporary art competitions. He paints original paintings on wooden surfaces.

The tree in her life is not accidental – Irina is a wood painting artist by her first education. She acquired a love for this warm “live” material there. Having successfully defended her diploma in 1995, the artist earned several years by painting wooden products: boxes, dolls, vases, furniture. She even painted icons on birch bark. So, her first education determined not only the decorativeness of her style, but also the material on which she works now. After 20 years, her dolls and boxes were transformed into paintings… on a tree.

Irina’s second profession is a graphic designer. Since 2006 he has been working in this field: develops packaging design, logos, illustrations. But the digital world did not draw the artist into her space completely and she continued to draw in traditional techniques all her free time.

I love Art Nouveau and Wood!

In her work, Irina went by searching for her own materials and in 2021 she developed her own special technique on a tree. “I like how the natural texture of wood sounds under the influence of my artistic techniques and materials: pastels, stain, acrylic and potali. Pastel and wood have a high degree of tactility, their synergy works wonders, and images literally come to life in the material.” When an artist develops his own technique, such a strong connection is established between him and the materials that it is no longer possible to break it – he begins to think in the language of his technique.

The female image occupies a large part of her work. The warm tone of wood is similar to the warmth of the human body. “It is worth walking a little pastels on the shadow areas, as the image becomes tangible. This is the moment of appearance I love most of all. And it seems that you are involved in it, but the feeling of magic still remains,” says the artist.

Modernism had a very strong influence on Irina’s style. Its decorativeness, clarity of lines, natural motifs – all this is in the art of Irina Laskova. The series “4 seasons. 4 souls” she dedicated to the seasons. A person is a part of nature, when the appearance of nature changes, the inner state of a person, the state of the soul, changes. To feel the image of each season, you need to live it, stay in this state, because each season has its own character, its own soul, its own self-sufficient beauty and we live our lives going through these states of nature.

The series was exhibited at the International Exhibition “TALENT OF RUSSIA 2022” in the New Tretyakov Gallery.
