Iran and Iraq agree to overcome obstacles on trade and investment

The Minister of Economy and Finance of Iran Ehsan Khanduzi became a participant of the 5th economic Iran-Iraq commission, the meeting of which is taking place in Iran today, the News Agency of the Iranian Republic reports. During the event, the head of the department noted, it was possible to reach agreements on the elimination of obstacles in the field of trade and investment between the two countries. “Good agreements have also been reached in such areas as water, electricity, mines and three industrial complexes at the border points of Iran and Iraq,” he added.

In addition, on the agenda of the meeting was the issue of finalizing the railway project from Shalamche to Basra, on the construction of which the states agreed in 2021.

“We also discussed the resolution of the problem of the Shalamche-Basra railway, and we hope to finalize this project with the budget allocated by the Iraqi government in the coming days,” the Economy Minister said.

According to information from the News Agency, over the past 11 months, Iran and Iraq have increased mutual trade turnover by 20%, which may indicate an improvement in interstate economic relations between the states.
